    Wear of metal machine parts is one of the biggest concerns the industry knows and creates enormous costs for companies. The durability and reliability of machines and installations is strongly influenced by the wear of parts. The costs caused by loss of material, loss of productivity, assembly and disassembly are most often enormous. The anual costs of maintaining a stock of parts often exceed 30% of the investment value. Wear consists of the unwanted erosion of material due to an action of another material. Wear can have different causes and can not be prevented just by increasing the hardness of the wear part.

    The shape and desired dimensions are factors wich need to be accounted for. The possibillity to machine the wear protective surface can partly determin the choice of choosen layers. By searching extensively for methodes of machining the protective layers Martec has the possibillity to create high wear resistance and high tolerances on wear parts.
